Burgundy Blanc

As far as concerned, the combination of Chinese and English of trans-French is absurd and painful. So this column will be writen through simplified English.

THis post will mainly talk about the wine with normal price.

The outline will be as follows

  • Clive Coates rating of vineyards of the Côte d’Or
  • the blanc confusing domaines
  • Every Domaines(to be continue…)
  • Clive Coates My Favorate Burgundy(to be finishe…)

Last day watch me frustrated or embrassed with a Benoit ente puligny village(CNY 950) when cellartracker dont think this wine deserve 100$ good. Later, I checked the Allen Meadow mark and nothing new but a 90 point village.

Clive Coates Rating the Vineyards of the Côte d’Or

Three Stars Le Montrachet Chevalier-Montrachet

Two Stars Corton-Charlemagne (the rest) Bâtard-Montrachet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet

One Star Meursault: Les Genevrières (dessous); Les Charmes (dessous); Les Perrières (dessus)

Puligny-Montrachet: Les Combettes; Les Perrières; Les Pucelles; Les Folatières (lower section); Clos de la Garenne

Corton-Charlemagne (the lieu-dit Le Charlemagne and the southerly part of En Charlemagne)

Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Meursault, Les Perrières (dessous) Puligny-Montrachet, Les Caillerets

Chassagne-Montrachet: Blanchot Dessous; En Remilly; Les Caillerets; La Grande Montagne; Les Grandes Ruchottes; La Romanée

But there exists no necessary to talk about these climat, in fact, it’s better to start with the winery if you can’t buy it.

Blanc Confusing Domaines

The most confusing part belongs to Colin and Morey family due to their ancient gave birth to boys and girls equally.

Colin

Marc/Bernard/Michel Colin-Deleger are in cousin relationship.

Now Michel Colin Deleger is divided by Bruno and Philippe, Bernard sells the land, and Marc is branched into PYCM, which is managed by three other children, one of whom founded maison Joseph Colin.

In general, there are 5 Colin domaine/maison in currency.

Morey

Based on Jasper Morris description as follows

Albert Morey, father of Bernard and Jean-Marc. Bernard Morey, father of Vincent and Thomas. Jean-Marc Morey, whose daughter Caroline married Pierre-Yves Colin. Marc Morey, father of Michel Morey-Coffinet and Marie-Joseph, married to Bernard Mollard, who has taken over Domaine Marc Morey. Michel Morey-Coffinet, established on his own account, now with son Thibault. Vincent Morey, now established with wife Sophie in his father’s winery.

The seven wineries still in production are Marc Morey/Thomas Morey/Vincent & Sophie Morey/Morey Coffinet, oh, of course, a branch of Pierre Morey’s surname, and the PYCM mentioned in Colin.

Sylvain is son of Jean-Marc which is not mentioned by Jasper Morris.

Boillot

This family is rather confusing. Jean-Marc in pommard /Henri in volnay/Lucien in Gevrey/Louis in Chambolle.

Jean-Marc Boillot, a grandson of Etienne Sauzet, took his share and left.

Henri is Jean-Marc brother, formerly Jean Boillot.

Other family don’t have too much difficult relationship.

Every Domaines

This problem will talk about some normal blanc.

Philippe Colin

AM likes Chenevottes, Remilly(Chassagne), Demoiselles(Puligny)

As the only high performance-price ratio wine, Chenevottes was 600CNY half a year ago, now it nearly lost its status.

Bruno Colin

I just have no idea why this domaine have excessive price than his brother philippe in China while he don’t have corrosponding product.

He has Blanchot and Truffiere. stable wine like Remilly. all wine quality depend on the vintage. 2018 must be a disaster to him.

My Favorite Burgundy

This book contains a private collection of Clive Coates, in another way, a boring book with his remark in some expensive vineyards. But as he mentioned the differences between genevrieres dessous and dessus, there are some good advice from this kind of subtle things.

Puligny Folatieres

In this part, he thought a ranking as follows

Very Best: Folatieres

Best: Caillerets, Le Garenne, La Truffiere, Les Champs Gain, others

Clive Coates had a high evaluation of Louis Jadot Clos de la Garenne.
